POOL LOSING
WATER?

A good rule of thumb for the Valley: about a quarter inch of loss per day in the cooler months and up to an inch a day in July and August. Pools with attached spas, waterfalls, bubblers, deck jets, or sheer descents lose even more, because moving water evaporates far faster than still water. Heavy swim use, splash-out, kids and dogs jumping in, and backwashing your filter all add to the total as well.

Anything consistently beyond that range — especially if it keeps happening after the weather cools off, or if your pool drops faster when the equipment is running — deserves a closer look. Water loss that continues through the fall and winter is one of the clearest indicators that you're dealing with a structural or plumbing leak rather than desert evaporation.

A small leak almost never stays small. Escaping water erodes the soil under your decking and cool deck, which leads to settling, cracking, and eventually expensive concrete and structural repairs. Constant refilling also dilutes your chlorine, salt, and stabilizer, making the water harder to balance and rougher on plaster, pebble finishes, tile, and equipment.

On top of that, a leaking pool can run your pump dry, burn out a motor, and quietly add hundreds of dollars a year to your water bill. Catching the problem early is almost always the cheaper fix — and it protects the value of your pool, your yard, and your home.
